Black Philanthropy Initiative Secures $200,000 Matching Donation

The Black Philanthropy Initiative of Winston-Salem (BPI) recently secured a $200,000 matching donation from an anonymous donor toward its 3-year, $2 million campaign to support local Black communities. To-date, BPI has raised just over $1.6 million from donors and community members. Beginning in May 2024, all new gifts and pledges are being matched dollar for dollar up to $200,000, helping BPI raise the last $400,000 needed to reach its fundraising goal.  

BPI’s Advisory Board Chair, Tiffany Waddell Tate, expressed her excitement by sharing: “BPI has always been and remains committed to seeding action on the ground with organizations that are activating real change in our community. Thanks to this generous match, our campaign goal is within reach—which means wider access and impact aligned with economic mobility and change-making for Black residents of Forsyth County for years to come.”  

ABOUT BPI’S CAMPAIGN TO ADVANCE BOLD, BLACK-LED COMMUNITY CHANGE

In the fall of 2022, BPI announced the goal of raising at least $2 million over three years—funds will be largely directed toward increasing its annual grantmaking funding, with the remaining added to its endowment to ensure that dollars are available to support grantmaking for years to come.  

As the only local funding initiative that is 100% Black-led, BPI is uniquely positioned to address the most pressing issues that Black residents face because of deliberate and systematic underinvestment. Since its founding in 2003, BPI has awarded more than $800,000 to local organizations that are building a better future and transforming lives for Black residents.

BPI honors the long and significant history of Black giving and offers a powerful way to give back and pay it forward. Through collective giving, grantmaking, and community engagement, BPI ensures local organizations have what they need to advance racial equity and respond to community needs, particularly those in local Black communities.
