Youth Grantmakers in Action Award 8 Grants to Youth-Led Projects in Forsyth County

Youth Grantmakers in Action (YGA) announces 8 grants totaling $10,000 to support a variety of youth-led projects in Forsyth County. Following are their 2023 Grant Recipients:

  • Athletes4Change: $1,427 to conduct a basketball camp for underserved youth
  • Científico Atlético: $2,038 to engage Hispanic youth in science and sports activities
  • Embedded Mentor Program: $1,600 to conduct a youth entertainment camp incorporating strategies to reduce violence
  • Hope and Zella Ann/SPARK: $700 to provide materials and supplies for 2 celebration events for low-income students
  • Project Dosti: $1,600 to support youth refugees through language and academic skills
  • Students4Change: $1,200 to purchase duffel bags and essential supplies for teenagers in the foster care system
  • Study Buddies Friend Level Learning: $800 to expand a a youth tutoring program for elementary students
  • TASA Youth Initiative: $635 to provide quality swim lessons to under-served children

YGA appreciates the generosity of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation for renewing their investment of $5,000 in YGA’s grantmaking to support youth philanthropy in Forsyth County.

Youth Grantmakers in Action is a diverse group of 10th-12th graders from across Forsyth County who meet during the school year to gain leadership experience, represent the youth of the community, and grant money to youth-led community projects that will have a positive impact on other youth.  The application for the 2023-2024 YGA cohort is currently open through May 22nd, 2023.  

A program of The Winston-Salem Foundation, YGA was formed in 2005 from the vision of Dr. Nathaniel Irvin and the financial support of Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust. Since its first round of grants were made in 2006, YGA has granted over $75,000 to youth-led community projects. To learn more about YGA, please visit our website.
