Meet our Members

   Latoya D. Cheek

1. Who are/were your role models for "giving back" to your community and how did they influence you?
My grandmother is truly my first role model. Throughout my entire life, I have watched her serve the community in which she lives. The women of the Women’s Fund of Winston-Salem, specifically the ACEY Group, are also role models- there is nothing better than a group of women working for the “greater good” of other women in our community. These ladies are truly passionate and excited about impacting the lives of women and girls in Forsyth County through social change.

2. What issues impacting women & girls are you most passionate about? Do you have any personal connection to any of these issues?
I am passionate about financial literacy and higher education. In order to be self-sufficient, you must have an understanding of the tools and resources needed to be self-sufficient. Many of our young girls do not understand the impact of making sound financial decisions. It is critical that we build a foundation based on knowledge and education to maintain and/or improve our financial well-being.

3. What would you tell other women and girls about The Women's Fund to encourage them to get involved?
The Women’s Fund focuses on social change with girls and women in the community. We are about empowerment and creating avenues to improve the lives of others.

4. Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I have a true passion for financial literacy and founded g.r.o.w., inc., a nonprofit organization that focuses on financial literacy, college preparation, and health education for girls ages 11-19. Both personally and professionally, I enjoy learning and helping others. It is my goal to use my professional and educational experiences to help others along my journey in life.
